With the flight passenger in mind, a minimalist hotel has been created in London's Gatwick Airport right in the terminal. Another one opened Heathrow and others throughout the world to follow. Amsterdam's Schiphol is leading the way next, opening Summer 2008.
The founder of the Japanese fast-food chain, Yo! Sushi came up with the idea to make things more comfortable for people whose planes could not take off due to delays or for those who have to catch an early AM flight. What better way than waiting on line for a hotel jitney to take you back to the airport. You are right there.
The first of this innovated idea at Gatwick consists of 46 premium twin rooms and premium cabins. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, crisp bed-linen, room service, in cabin entertainment of flat screen TVs with over 60 stations. A cabin, as they are known, can be booked in as little as a four hour stay to overnight.
Being no different than a small upscale boutique hotel room, you can actually enjoy being stuck at the airport and keep in mind there is a no smoking policy in any of the cabins.
The same design plans were used that have been built upon new technology with the advance use of space, similar to yachts or the first class section on a flight, created small liveable cabins. The innovated design of this small space proved to become a secure comfortable retreat for a short period. And if you are travelling further and have a stopover in London, refresh yourself by stopping at the Yotel for a quick shower and rest. What better way to make a layover more enjoyable.
Normally, anything you purchase at an airport becomes costly. Surprisingly, the Yotel is relatively inexpensive and a bargain. Prices vary, depending whether you secure a cabin for four hours or overnight. But for the price of a standard cabin overnight, it is almost impossible to find a hotel room directly outside the airport or in London itself to match that price, unless you go for a one star category. Try the premium cabins as they are at an incredible price, also. The cabins can accommodate two people.
Reservations can be made on line at www.yotel.com and keep a watch at this site for new airport locations to pop up throughout the world. This is sure to be a success and eventually at every major airport in the future.
